Kids Plant-dyed Organic Face Mask

Clean and simple face masks made with organic cotton, natural rubber elastic and dyed with organic indigo leaves. Longer length for additional protection and side opens for optional insertion of an extra filter. Thicker elastic on the top helps the face mask stay in place on active kiddos.

Generally fits kids ages 4-13. On younger kids the mask ends lower on the neck. Fabric is approximately 7 inches (17.5 cm) long at center and 8 inches (20 cm) at top elastic band.

Ethically designed and manufactured in Los Angeles using upcycled organic cotton production scraps.

For sanitary reasons, we cannot except returns on face masks.

While most clothing and accessories use synthetic fabrics and dyes (even organic apparel), our masks are made with 100% organic cotton, naturally dyed with plants. The blue shibori mask is dyed with organic indigo leaves and the charcoal gray mask is dyed with oak galls and wood from the Campeche tree.

Indigo leaf dye has been safely used for thousands of years (dating back to 2000-3000 B.C.) for its ability to make strong and beautiful blues. In the 1800s, natural indigo was almost completely replaced by synthetic indigo, which is derived from the known toxin aniline (a chemical that has been used to make rocket fuel).

Oak has natural antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties that help reduce skin irritation.

Wood from the Campeche tree (also known as logwood) has been safely used in Europe since the 1500s, and by the Mayans for hundreds of years before that. It is prized for creating longlasting blacks with the addition of iron.

The fabric and plant dyes used in this mask are GOTS certified, which in additional to strict environmental standards, also certifies that every company involved in the production of the fabric provides fair wages and safe working conditions.

This elastic is from a company that practices fair trade throughout its supply chain.

This fabric was manufactured into tees in Los Angeles by a small company that likewise provides its workers safe working conditions and fair wages.

These masks are made with GOTS certified organic cotton fabric, sewing thread and plant dyes - the highest standard in organic. Every single step of in the creation of this piece, from the growing of the cotton, to final manufacture, is independently verified to be organic.

After manufacture, the masks were locally plant dyed in Los Angeles. Plant dyes do not produce toxic run-off like conventional (and other organic dyes) and plant dyes remove carbon from the air during the plant's growth, helping reverse the cause of global climate change.

Machine wash on gentle cycle using a mild pH-neutral detergent and without fabric softeners. Tumble dry on low.
